GreenWheaton a sustainable community

Welcome to the Groupsite for GreenWheaton.

GreenWheaton became a non-profit organization in June 2011.  We are dedicated to engaging the community in education and outreach that promotes Wheaton, Maryland as a model sustainable community with a healthy environmental footprint.

Through Public Education and Outreach, we plan to:

• Reduce the community's carbon footprint
  
• Build environmentally-conscious consumers
  
• Support the success of local businesses
  
• Engage the community in building green, thriving neighborhoods
  
• Improve air and water quality in the watershed
  
• Create a healthy, accessible, welcoming downtown for both pedestrians and bicyclists
  
• Inter-connect the Wheaton downtown and its neighborhoods physically, functionally and thematically
  
• Serve as a living laboratory for testing and modeling "Urban Greening" and "Low Impact Development" practices
